history of pilates
Pilates is an exercise system developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the early part of the 20th century. Over his lifetime, he focused on improving physical and mental wellbeing through a whole-body approach to movement.
At its best, Pilates is not just something you “do” for an hour and forget. It is a method that helps you understand how your body works, strengthen from the inside out, and move with more balance, ease, and confidence. Done consistently, it builds core strength, improves posture, and increases flexibility by developing the whole body, not just one area. Pilates can be practiced on the mat and on specially designed equipment, which allows the work to be progressed, refined, and tailored to different bodies and different needs.
What matters most today is how Pilates is taught: people do not come to feel anonymous in a room. They come to feel seen, to be guided with real attention, and to leave feeling noticeably different in their body, not just “tired.” That is the difference clients describe when sessions are taught with precision and personal care: they learn, they adjust habits they did not even realise they had, and the benefits show up in everyday life.
This is the work I have dedicated my life to: teaching Pilates in a way that is intelligent, progressive, and personal, with a deep love of movement and a commitment to the people in front of me.
